Our senses speak. Mindfulness listens. Crafts anchors.
Making space for what’s unsayable.
Some answers arrive as images, not sentences. Others arrive as flavours, scents, or the feeling of warm hands around a cup. At Joyful Soul Psychology we combine OH Cards, mindfulness, and multisensory collaboration (coffee roasters, candle-makers, aromatherapists and makers, sound therapist, pastry chef/ bakeries) to create safe, embodied experiences that help people notice what words alone can’t—then choose small, testable steps that change daily life.
In this post we’ll discuss why images + mindfulness + sensory craft make such a powerful trio, how an experience might entails, examples of partnered offerings we run, and how to join us for a safe, practical OH Cards experience.

Why OH Cards + mindfulness work
OH Cards are decks of evocative images that act as projective, non-directive prompts. They help people surface implicit memories, bodily sensations and half-formed meanings without forcing literal narratives. Paired with short mindfulness (a 30–60s grounding practice or PQ micro-rep), image work becomes safer and more integrated: clients can notice a feeling, stay with it, and then translate it into a tiny, doable experiment rather than getting stuck in rumination.
Why add multisensory partners? Our reasoning…
Partnering with tactile and sensory experiences strengthens the work in four key ways:
- Embodied grounding accelerates access. Smell and touch access different neural pathways (olfactory-limbic links are fast). A warming cup, a crafted candle or a familiar aroma can lower defensive arousal and make metaphorical material feel less threatening.
- Multimodal memory and meaning. When insight arrives through image and scent or craft, it forms richer associative links — which improves recall and increases the chance someone will act on a new idea.
- Lowered linguistic demand. Some clients (and many busy professionals) find metaphors easier than direct talk. A hands-on craft or mindful tasting creates a comfortable, playful frame for otherwise vulnerable exploration.
- Accessible entry points & innovation for group work. Non-clinical collaborators (coffee roasters, candle studios) help us host approachable workshops that attract people who might not sign up for “therapy” but will attend a creative wellbeing event.
Clinically, adding sensory partners is safe and effective when we keep boundaries clear (mental wellness or coaching, not therapy).

Examples of partnered formats (real, bookable experiences)
1. Brewing our ‘OH’ moments — Mindful coffee jamming with OH Cards workshop (90 mins, group)
In partnership with TCR Infinity Coffee Studios.
- What it is: A guided session where participants taste a single-origin brews, do a short mindful tasting and create your ‘OH’ moment blends, then use OH Cards to reflect.
- Why it works: The ritual of tasting slows the nervous system; the roast’s flavour becomes an anchor for the insight and future micro-practice (e.g., “Each morning, I pause with this cup and ask my Sage question.”)
- Ideal for: Professionals wanting a practical ritual, company wellbeing breakfasts, creative teams.
2. Finding our ‘OH’ scent sanctuary — Workshop where OH Cards meets essential oils (90 min, group)
- What it is: Short psychoeducation about scent + a guided card draw. Participants choose their signature scent to pair with their insight and make a small roller or aroma card to take home.
- Why it works: Olfactory cues strongly anchor emotion and memory, supporting immediate calming and long-term reminder cues.
- Safety note: We use high-quality materials (i.e. doTERRA®) with informed consent for allergies and skin sensitivities.
3. Metaphorical candling — Workshop where OH Cards meets a candle maker (90-120 min, group)
- What it is: Making a small candle (simple pour, at times infused with scents), using OH Cards to reflect on what needs ‘lighting’ in their life, coupled with a short mindful visualisation.
- Why it works: Making a tangible object as a commitment ritual helps embed micro-experiments. The candle becomes a gentle daily reminder of the chosen action we would like to begin and maintain.
4. Singing our ‘OH’ sights — OH Cards + sound bowl (90 min, group)
- What it is: Pairs a gentle singing-bowl ritual with OH Cards and short mindfulness to help us notice, choose and anchor a tiny step forward.
- Why it works: A sound bowl gently calms the nervous system, reduces threat-driven reactivity, and anchors attention to bodily cues—so insights can surface with less overwhelm and be turned into small, practical steps. It’s a helpful companion to reflective tools like OH Cards and short mindfulness practices.
- Ideal for: Professionals seeking embodied regulation before/after high-stress events, groups exploring quiet reflective practice (leadership offsite, wellbeing breakfasts), individuals curious about deeper somatic cues and metaphor-based insight, people who prefer sensory or nonverbal approaches
5. OH bakes — OH Cards creaming with pastry chef (90 -120 min, group)
- What it is: Hands-on baking led by a pastry chef: participants bake a simple, guided pastry, pausing for short mindful rituals (what the baking and flavour evoke), using OH Cards draw to reflect and forward plan. The session closes with tangible takeaways (e.g. OH cookies, OH pies, etc.).
- Why it works: Baking’s steady rhythm and hands-on focus calm the nervous system and build presence. Paired with mindful tasting and OH Cards, this multisensory experience helps insights surface gently and stick—making them easier to turn into small, practical steps.
- Ideal for: Professionals who prefer embodied, activity-based reflection; teams seeking an approachable wellbeing offsite; people who find talk therapy intimidating but respond to doing; creative teams and staff wellbeing breakfasts.
6. OH Cards jamming — OH Cards + mindful (or mostly whimsical) drawing (90 min, group)
- What it is: For those who prefer quieter craft: draw, colour or collage after a card draw, e.g. map bodily sensations, reflections, and small bite size actionable steps forward.
- Why it works: Art-making accesses implicit memory non-verbally, supporting all walks of life and diversity.
Who benefits
- Busy professionals who want practical rituals to anchor insight.
- Teams seeking low-stakes, creative ways to explore values and collaboration.
- Individuals curious about metaphor work but hesitant about talk therapy.
- Neurodivergent participants who prefer hands on activities and sensory modes (with adaptations).

How Joyful Soul Psychology facilitates these collaborations
We lead the therapeutic/coaching framing, reflective inquiry and safety protocols. Our partners provide high-quality sensory materials and craft facilitation. We co-design each event to match the theme, audience and safety needs: for example, quiet small groups for reflective practice, or lighter, festival-style pop-ups for community engagement.
- Memorable rituals: Sensory takeaways (a scent roller, a commissioning cup, a candle, a pastry) make micro-experiments easier to keep.
- Local economic reciprocity: Collaborations support small businesses (roasters, makers, chef) and create cross-promotional opportunities.
- Broader wellbeing appeal: These approachable collaborative sessions welcome people who wouldn’t otherwise try therapy, nurturing a community that practices and supports healthier wellbeing.
Metaphor, mindfulness, and something to hold
Images open the door; mindfulness helps us step through; a crafted object helps us remember the path. Combining OH Cards with sensory partners makes insight more felt and more likely to become action.
