Community Confidence: PBIS-based workshops that teach real-world social skills

Community routines are predictable, when we teach the steps.

Learn how PBIS makes road safety, ordering food, public eating etiquette, and shopping learnable.

Many young adults want independence but freeze or use socially risky behaviours in noisy streets, confusing queues or busy eateries and convenience stores. PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) gives a practical framework: define observable expectations, teach them explicitly, practise with support, acknowledge success, and measure progress. The result is safer, calmer, more confident community participation.

Community routines
Ready to build real community confidence?

We teach concrete community skills

We focus on these everyday, high-value routines that build independence and social confidence:

  1. Road safety : stop/look/listen/decide; use crossings and train or bus etiquette; board/alight safely.
  2. Ordering drinks & food : reliable scripting (approach → ask → confirm → pay), polite volume & pacing, handling errors.
  3. Eating manners & public etiquette : table manners, sharing space respectfully, noise & volume control, hygiene, handling spills.
  4. Buying essentials at convenience stores/ supermarkets : find items, ask for help, pay (cash/card), check receipts and handle small problems politely.

Each skill is taught using PBIS principles: teach → role-play → micro-outing → feedback → acknowledge → monitor data.

Who this is for

Partnering with tactile and sensory experiences strengthens the work in four key ways:

  • Young adults (late teens → mid-20s) wanting practical community independence.
  • People with autism, ADHD, pragmatic language needs, or any learner wanting guided practice.
  • In small groups to maximise practice and reduce sensory overload.

Program format (with adaptations as necessary)

  • 90 minutes sessions (no of sessions will be customise to individual learning needs). Small group or individual sessions, clinician-led.
  • Sessions follow a predictable routine: warm-up → teach with visual scripts → guided practice → micro-outing or simulation → reflection & acknowledgement → home practice.
  • Real community practice is supervised with a fading-support approach: prompts → hints → independent.
  • Simple data tracking (prompt level, independent attempts, self-rating) shows measurable progress.

Evidence & clinical reasoning

PBIS is an evidence-based, multi-tiered framework endorsed by the Center on PBIS. Its strength is in systematising how we teach behaviours across settings: universal teaching + targeted supports + data-driven decisions. As PBIS-trained clinicians and registered professionals in our respective field, i.e. a speech therapist and a psychologist, we add language scaffolds (scripts, visuals, AAC options) and clinical decision prompts (hypothesis testing: sensory, language, attention, mindfulness) so learning is meaningful and safe.

Behaviour coaching
PBIS gives a practical framework to learn how to be safe, calm, confident during community participation.
