Community skills are life skills.
When young adults learn how to order food clearly, shop with greater independence, road safety, they gain more than just a routine. They gain confidence, participation, and dignity in everyday life.
Want your young adult to move through the community with more confidence and independence?
Everyday outings can feel overwhelming when there are so many things to think about at once e.g. crossing roads, ordering food, waiting in line, paying, asking for help, or knowing how to behave in public spaces.
Our PBIS-based Community Skills small group turns these everyday situations into meaningful learning moments. Using a structured, supportive approach, we help young adults practise the skills they need to participate more confidently in real-life community settings.
Young adults will learn to:
follow community routines safely
practise polite social language
wait, ask, and respond appropriately
build confidence in public settings
increase independence with guided support
track progress over time
Our approach
We use a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework to teach skills in a structured way:
Teach expectations clearly
Practise together in supported settings
Acknowledge effort and success
Track progress over time
This means participants do not just hear about the skill = they learn it, rehearse it, and apply it in real-life contexts.
Currently, sessions are conducted on Fridays, starting from 9am, last session ends at 5pm.
